People in Action once again took part in the Nuneaton Carnival. After securing numerous awards last year including including best float, overall winners classes A, C and D. The Day Opportunities team and customers put in countless hours of hard work to attempt to retain the awards we walked away with last year.
This year’s Carnival theme was ‘The 80’s’. Our workshop customers decided on the Nintendo theme, the float was decorated with classic video game settings of Mario, Space Invaders and Zelda. Pac man and Diddy Kong also made an appearance on the day.
Work started in early January and the team worked right up until the last minute to ensure the float looked perfect.
Handmade leaves and hand drawn pictures of each of the chosen games were hung and stuck all over the float to create the perfect set.
Although there was a brief spell of rain the team did not let that dull their spirits for the day.
This year there was fierce competition up their game and we had to settle for 3rd place overall and winning a wheelchair prize!
Martin Bliss, Day opportunities Co coordinator had the following to say:
“After our huge success last year we always knew that winning this year would be tough, as everyone else would up their game. We all worked as hard this year, and loved every minute of preparing for this year’s carnival. A big thank you to all involved, and we look forward to next year’s Carnival where we will attempt to reclaim the top spot. Before this however we are looking to take part in the Bulkington Carnival – the hard work doesn’t stop!”
A massive well done to all of the customers and staff who were involved in the making of the float as it truly was amazing and just goes to show what hard work and determination can do. But before the next Nuneaton Carnival the team will focus their attention on the Bulkington Carnival which takes place on the 7th July 2019. We will be holding carnival workshops on Tuesdays – 2:30 – 3:30 and Wednesdays 1:30 -3:30. If anyone would like to take part you can find out about attending the sessions by ringing 02476 643776.
