Leading providers of horticultural therapy

People in Action have been leading providers of Horticultural therapy for the past 20 years. We have two successful garden nurseries located within community settings – Leasowes & Bedworth Community Gardens.

People in Action heavily endorse and operate in line with the personalisation agenda, using a variety of tools and best practice in person-centered planning to establish what is most important to an individual and what they hope to achieve while attending our horticulture therapy nurseries.

We provide day placements and a structured learning environment based on the abilities of the trainees. Horticultural Therapy Support Workers work on a one to one or group basis, tailoring activities to suit the individual. Trainees have the opportunity to develop horticultural skills, both practical ones such as propagating, pruning and plant care and theoretical ones such as plant identification, pest identification, disease identification, health and safety in a horticultural environment and knowing the correct tools to use.

Trainees are actively involved in the running of the nurseries and their community from growing plants, learning about horticulture and serving customers. We offer gardening in the community where sheltered homes and other vulnerable groups have their outside space tended and kept tidy. We also maintain a number of flower beds for local councils which is helpful in giving our trainees the complete picture of how the plants that they have been growing in the nursery are then planted out in flower beds to bring colour and cheer to their community.
